Volume Up

Okay, I have to admit that I only looked this up after the Gangnam Song but this is quite a catchy dance song too particularly the chorus part. The Gangnam Song led to Kim Hyun-A, which led to 4-Minute, which led to a number of singles including this one.

What I don’t quite get is why many of these K/J-Pop singers like to release mini-albums instead of releasing a full album of songs. It seems to me that singing songs seem to have taken a back-seat to looking sultry and dancing provocatively. I’m not complaining though!

But the lyrics – cheesy, or maybe it’s just the translation.

When you first saw me, you couldn’t take your eyes off of me
Uh uh uh uh you, uh uh uh uh
You talk about me and say you don’t like me because I’m too easy behind my back
Eh eh eh eh why

You used to dance and smile everyday to my voice
But now you say you don’t want to hear my voice anymore and turn your back

I’m going crazy, he says I’m done now
He says there’s no room for me anymore
Turn up my voice, Turn up this music
Everybody time to rock

Take it all away and pump up the volume (up up)
Don’t wanna hear it – pump up the volume (up up)
I will change more as time goes by and get stronger eh eh eh oh more

Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh oh more
Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh

You never looked at me properly even once
Uh uh uh uh you, uh uh uh uh
Whatever I did, you didn’t care
Hey eh eh eh eh why

Your eyes make constrict my heart more and more everyday
Now I am hidden as a greater scar in my heart

I’m going crazy, he says I’m done now
He says there’s no room for me anymore
Turn up my voice, Turn up this music
Everybody time to rock

Take it all away and pump up the volume (up up)
Don’t wanna hear it – pump up the volume (up up)
I will change more as time goes by and get stronger eh eh eh oh more

Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh oh more
Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh

You won’t know, there’s no way you would know me
Lie lie lie lie
Lie lie lie lie
Lie lie lie lie

Take it all away and pump up the volume (up up)
Don’t wanna hear it – pump up the volume (up up)
I will change more as time goes by and get stronger eh eh eh oh more
Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh oh more
Uh uh uh uh uh Uh uh uh uh uh

A Song of Fire and Ice

A Dance with Dragons

Winter is Coming but this story is never going to end.

Disclaimer: potential spoilers ahead.

I’ve been on a reading marathon and just finished reading A Dance with Dragons last week. Let me say that even after 5 volumes, we’re no where near to facing the really big war. We don’t even know who the bad guy is. However, major characters are dropping like flies (or not).

In the books, one cannot really know if someone is really dead until they are really warm and dead. Of all the Starks, only Robb is really dead (at least I think so). I don’t know about the rest – not even Jon who was stabbed by his own men. Also, many new characters are crawling out of the woodwork. We have two surviving Targaryens now.

What keeps me reading is Arya Stark – my favourite character. I’m curious to see how her character develops and what will be her end. I’d love to see her reunited with Nymeria and the rest of her family. Unfortunately, I do not think that her end is going to be a good one. I just hope that she’ll get to work through her list of names before the end.

I’ve also begun to develop a love for Tyrion Lannister – the Imp. He’s got so much character and survival instinct. I have a feeling that he’ll play a major role throughout the story. I just hope that he doesn’t get killed off at some point, getting his head bitten off by a dragon, most like.

The interesting thing is the influence that the books have had on my language skills. Don’t be surprised if you see odd language on this blog in the future.

Burning Candles

I was asked today – where I find time to sleep, and do I sleep very late?

My reply was – I burn the candle at both ends: sleep late and rise early. I sleep late because I usually have quite a bit of work to finish up and I sleep early as I usually have morning classes to teach.

However, this all changes when I’m up in Penang. Here, I get to sleep early! Also, now that I’ve been up quite often, I’ve grown accustomed to the place. So, sleeping is no longer a problem for me.

I will be back in KL soon and it’s back to the grind for me. I’ve got loads of work that are awaiting my return. For now, I’ll continue to grab as much sleep as I can to recharge them batteries!

Gangnam Style

This is just extremely catch.

I got introduced to this #Gangnam meme last week and boy, it’s catchy! I can’t seem to get the tune out of my head and it doesn’t matter how often I’ve replayed it, it still doesn’t get old. I tried the horse dance and it’s not that easy to sustain.

I prefer the remix. I wonder if it shouldn’t be renamed to “Gangnam Style – Hyuna (ft PSY)” instead.

End of Exams

I sat for my final Law exam paper this morning. It was an exhausting affair and I had to resort to eating energy bars during the exams otherwise, my brain was blanking out.

Anyway, I have to say that my question spotting skills are still spot on. This time around, I had a 97.5% accuracy in spotting the questions. It helps that I’m also a lecturer.

I have not written so much in ages – 20 essays in 15 hours. All that writing takes a toll. My fingers are still aching and I think that my thumb will hurt for a few more days.

I dare say that I know the gist of Malaysian legal history – how English Law made its way into this country and the lasting impact it has had on our legal system. Our legal system is a curious creature and begs to be studied in more detail.

I dare say that I know about marriages and divorces – under Islamic family Law. Learning divine law was a pain for an atheist like me. I just had to learn it as it was. It has led me to a better understanding of why some people think and act they way they do.

I dare say that I know a thing or two about contracts – how to make them and how to get out of them. This was probably my favourite paper as it is so orderly and structured. Or maybe it’s just because of my business dealings and industrial experience.

I dare say that I know the basics of tort and liability – though I did try my very best to steer clear of negligence. This was an eye-opening subject for me to learn as it forces one to dig deep for answers and tests our core values.

I dare say that I know more about our Constitution today than I did a year ago – it is extremely depressing being a student of Malaysian Constitutional Law though I do see some light at the end of the tunnel.

All in all, I think that the last year of learning Law has been a great experience for me. I think that I am now richer because of the experience. It has taught me how to see things from a totally different angle.

I do hope that I’ll be able to go onto learn more interesting things next year but for now, I have a 3-month break from studying. This will give me an opportunity to catch up on some reading.

Game of Thrones, here I come!

Reading Law

Why do I heap such pain and suffering onto myself?

Well, this is officially the hardest that I’ve ever worked for any exam in my entire life! That’s not to say that I find Law difficult. On the contrary, I actually find the Law quite easy to understand and apply. The problem is with the exams.

I’ve never sat for a Law paper before this and it’s been ages since I’ve actually written an essay. So, I have no idea what the expectations are and whether my present capability would net me a pass or a distinction.

All that I have to fall back on is some educated guesswork and experience. As an educator myself, I know what kind of things we’re looking for in an examination script. So, I’m a little better informed than many others.

That said, I still have no idea what the expectations are for Law at UM.

To be prepared, I have just decided to work my ass off and see how well or badly I fare. I have essentially cut myself off from the world for most of the last month and locked myself up in my room and Law library to work.

Writing essays was painful at first, having not hand-written things in ages. I struggled to find the pace and to even get my fingers to form the shapes of the words. Now, I have reached the point where I can write about a 1,000 word essay in under 45 minutes.

I pushed myself so hard that I started to suffer – essentially working 18/7 throughout the last few weeks. So, I took two days off before picking up the pace again.

My exams begin tomorrow and will last for two weeks – starting with Tort and ending with Constitution.

I hope to pass all my papers.

London – The Summer Musical

I got free VIP tickets for London – The Summer Musical, courtesy of Sunway Education Group. The show was staged at the Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre. I must admit that this was my first time to the Lagoon, for any purpose.

So, I took a friend out to watch the musical this evening. It was quite interesting. The songs were quite good and there was just so much dancing on stage. It’s a fun musical overall – lots of popular tunes that one can sing and dance to, which I did!

I have real respect for the band of dancers too. They were all over the stage throughout the night, and the show runs every night! No wonder they’re all so fit with the 2-hour workout each day. Amazing stamina.

Also, I got singled out by the singers, who asked for my name from the stage. I shouted it out and they incorporated it into their show, several times. Wow!

I have to say that I got the best seats in the house. I was literally seated in the centre of the VIP seating area, at eye-height with the stage. I guess that I have the people at Sunway who got me the tickets, to thank for this.

PS: I must also thank LordBobo for this.
